This week I chose two novels to read: Thousand Words by Jennifer Brown and Sunny Springs Secrets by Arlo Arrow and Elizabeth A. Lance.
First up is Thousand Words! This novel followed Ashleigh before, during, and after the events that ruined her life--sending a naked photo to her boyfriend. It is raw, and it shows so clearly how things unravel when all we see is the short term. I have witnessed this type of event and I've seen so many headlines revolving around this issue. As technology increases I fear this type of thing will always happen. Destroying lives in its wake. Jennifer Brown does a great job of showing how it all unfolds ... and how a photo is worth a thousand words, but it doesn't tell the whole story. Check out my Goodreads review here:
The second book, actually had a similar theme and I had no idea until I finished reading it.
Sunny Springs Secrets follows Helena a senior in high school. She is finally going to get everything she wished for--the senior editor position, the guy she crushed on, and her final year in high school. But she quickly sees that everything she thought she wanted, is very different from reality.
When Jay, the captain of the football team turns on her, she finds comfort in someone she considered her enemy, Daniel Bellamy. This was book one of a four part series. It was a quick read for me, but many of the interactions didn't sit well with me. There is also some strong language, in places I didn't think it needed to be. Overall, I see the draw to it, but here is my review on Goodreads:
Check them out if these topics interest you! I'll be on to something different for this week!
Don't forget to check in Monday for life updates and some tips on editing!
